Sync KOReader, Readest and Xteink to One Reading Log

A Kobo on the nightstand, a Boox in the bag, Readest on the laptop. Here is how Seekquel keeps one reading log across all of them, what each device sends, and how to set each one up.

Plenty of readers don’t read in one place. A Kobo sits on the nightstand and a Boox rides in the bag. Readest stays open on the work laptop, and the phone covers the pharmacy queue. Each one keeps its own idea of where you are in a book.

None of them knows about the others. The tracker you keep for yourself knows about none of them until you type it in.

Seekquel keeps one record of all of it. You choose which devices to connect, and on a KOReader reader you choose exactly what it sends.

What “in step” looks like on a normal day

Say you read two chapters on a Kobo running KOReader at night. At lunch you open the same book in Readest on your phone. If it’s the same file you loaded onto the Kobo, it opens where the Kobo stopped. A copy from a different store counts as a separate book with its own place, so keep one file per book across your devices.

That evening your streak and daily goal count the day once. Time reported by both devices isn’t counted twice, though the book shows an entry from each app.

Your streak holds whichever device you read on. That includes an Xteink pocket reader: once a book has synced, moving forward in it counts as a reading day.

What each device sends to Seekquel

The Seekquel app on iOS, Android and the web is where all of it shows up.

You decide what each device sends

A KOReader device with the add-on gets its own set of switches in Seekquel. Go to Settings, then Integrations, then KOReader, and you’ll find each paired reader with its own panel.

These are the ones most people touch first:

  • Send reading time
  • Send highlights and notes
  • Send status changes from this reader
  • Mark finished at the end of a book
  • Send highlights automatically

Your Kobo can send reading time and highlights. The Boox you also use for work PDFs can keep its highlights to itself. Your place in the book always syncs, whichever switches you turn off. Turn off automatic highlights and your passages leave the device only when you ask them to.

You set these from your phone or computer. The reader picks them up the next time you open a book on it. Change a switch on the device itself and the device wins.

Most books are matched to the catalogue automatically. When the add-on can’t tell which book a file is, it waits for you to choose, and nothing from that file is recorded until you do.

Calibre works on the same principle from the other end. Seekquel reads no Calibre column until you map it, your rating included. A column you leave unmapped stays untouched in both directions.

You can also limit the sync to one virtual library or saved search. That keeps the manuals in your library out of your reading log.

Readest, Xteink and KOReader’s built-in sync each send the fixed set in the table above. Each paired device gets its own row under Settings, then Integrations. You can disconnect one reader and leave the rest alone.

Setting up each device

Each setup takes a few minutes, and you never type your Seekquel password on an e-reader. The Seekquel help center has the full steps under Devices & Integrations.

KOReader on Kobo, Boox, PocketBook, Android or Kindle

Download the add-on from Settings, then Integrations, then KOReader. Unzip it, copy the seekquel.koplugin folder into koreader/plugins on your reader and restart KOReader.

On the reader, open Tools, then Seekquel, then Connect this device. Type the eight characters it shows into Seekquel to pair the two. On KOReader 2025.08 or later, the add-on then updates itself from its own menu, so there’s nothing to copy over a cable again.

KOReader runs on a Kobo without a jailbreak. A Kindle needs a jailbreak and KOReader installed first. The KOReader sync page covers what it sends in more detail.

Readest on your laptop, phone or browser

Create a key in Settings, then Integrations, then Readest. In Readest’s sync settings, choose BookOrbit, which is the sync method Seekquel answers to.

Enter the address Seekquel shows on the Readest screen as the server, and your key as the username. It’s a different address from the KOReader one. Readest wants a password as well, and anything works there. Then turn on syncing for progress, highlights, statistics and status.

The installed Readest apps talk to Seekquel directly. In a browser, your key passes through Readest’s own servers on the way.

Xteink X3, X4 or X4 Pro

Your Xteink needs CrossPoint or CrossInk, two free firmware options installed from a web page. Create a key in Seekquel. Enter the address and key in the reader’s KOReader Sync settings and fill in any password.

Set document matching to Binary and turn on sending document metadata, then choose Authenticate. Binary matching keeps your place even if you rename the file.

To sync, open a book, press the centre button and choose Sync Progress. Setting the long-press menu to sync makes that one hold of the button.

Calibre

Download the plugin from Settings, then Integrations, then Calibre. In Calibre, open Preferences, then Plugins, then Load plugin from file, and pick the zip.

Restart Calibre, click the Seekquel Sync button, choose Connect to Seekquel, then Start. Type the eight characters into Seekquel to pair it, then map the columns you want to sync.

Where each connection stops

Some of these connections go one way, and a few depend on you pressing a button. Here is where each one stops.

  • Highlights: they travel from the device to Seekquel and stay there. They don’t go back to the reader, and Readest bookmarks stay in Readest.
  • Xteink: it sends your place and nothing else, and only when you press sync. Reading time, finished books and highlights stay on the reader, because the firmware doesn’t send them.
  • KOReader’s built-in sync: it carries your place only. The add-on is what sends reading time and highlights.
  • Kobo and Kindle: both work through KOReader. Their stock software doesn’t connect to Seekquel.
  • Device limit: you can connect up to 10 readers across KOReader, Readest and Xteink.

If something in your setup doesn’t behave the way this page says, tell us on the feedback board. Bug reports from real readers on real devices are how every one of these connections got better.

Start with the device you use most

Pick the reader you open most often and connect that one first. Read a chapter, then open Seekquel and check that the day, the pages and the place all landed.

Add the second device once the first looks right. Then set its switches to send only what you want in your reading log.
