Synopsis

Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin set sail from Halifax to London, carrying news of a naval victory while evading American privateers. Their journey takes a dangerous turn when they are shipwrecked off the coast of France, leading to a desperate struggle for survival and a stint in a grim Parisian prison. This seventh installment of the series balances high-seas action with the quiet, sharp intelligence of Napoleonic-era espionage.
