Synopsis

Shipwrecked on a remote island after the loss of HMS Diane in a typhoon, Captain Jack Aubrey and his crew build a makeshift schooner to reach Batavia while Stephen Maturin pursues his naturalist interests ashore. A new ship, a diplomatic posting in New South Wales, and the wildlife of the Australian outback all test the pair before the voyage continues.
