Synopsis

During the brief Peace of Amiens, Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin find themselves on land, navigating the social minefields of the English countryside and the threat of debtors' prison. Their friendship is tested when they both fall for the same woman while hiding from the law in France. As war with Napoleon looms again, they must escape back to the sea to resume their command and repair their fractured bond.
