Synopsis

Napoleon has escaped from Elba, and the peace of Europe hangs by a thread. Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin are dispatched to the Mediterranean to intercept a shipment of gold intended to fund the Emperor's new army. Their mission takes them from the deck of the Surprise into the dangerous world of Islamic politics and high-stakes naval warfare.
