Synopsis

An August morning in Three Pines is broken by a series of small wrongnesses: a coat gone missing, an alarm tripped, a note left for Armand Gamache reading only 'this might interest you', and a torn scrap of paper carrying a list that makes no sense.

The pieces do not fit — until a murder makes them fit, and Gamache understands that what he is looking at is not a crime that has happened but one that is about to. The trail runs out of the village, across Québec and over borders, into a conspiracy in which it becomes very hard to know which allies are still allies.

The Grey Wolf is the nineteenth Chief Inspector Gamache novel, and the first half of a two-book story completed in The Black Wolf.
