Synopsis

Armand Gamache and his team stopped a domestic terror attack on Montréal and arrested the man behind it — the Black Wolf. It should have been over. Instead Gamache comes to understand that the plot he broke was a diversion, and that the real one is still running.

Injured and confined to Three Pines, unable to trust the chain of command above him, he directs a covert investigation from the village. What surfaces is a network with friends in law enforcement, in industry and in government, and a target still to come.

The Black Wolf is the twentieth Chief Inspector Gamache novel, published in October 2025. It completes the story begun in The Grey Wolf and should be read after it.
