Synopsis

Spenser, a former soldier and ex-state trooper turned private investigator, is hired to protect Candy Sloan, a television reporter investigating a corrupt Hollywood studio. As the investigation deepens, the case pulls Spenser into a world of blackmail, violence, and a ruthless studio executive who will stop at nothing to keep his secrets buried. Told in Spenser's trademark first-person voice, the novel blends hardboiled detective fiction with a gritty, noir atmosphere and a tense, propulsive plot.
