Synopsis

Working for Bigfoot collects three Dresden Files novellas — "B Is for Bigfoot," "I Was a Teenage Bigfoot," and "Bigfoot on Campus" — following Harry Dresden's long-running, quietly paid arrangement with River Shoulders, a Sasquatch who keeps hiring Harry to watch over his half-human son Irwin at three different stages of the boy's life: childhood, adolescence, and college. Each story finds Harry balancing the mundane work of looking out for a kid with the supernatural trouble that keeps finding him, from schoolyard bullies who are more than they seem to a dangerous entanglement with a White Court vampire. Together they trace Irwin's growth from a bullied child into a young man capable of handling himself, with Harry and River Shoulders as a recurring, understated double act.

These novellas are set at specific intervals throughout the earlier books in the series, so they are best enjoyed by readers who are already familiar with the established world and Harry Dresden's career. While they function as self-contained cases, they provide context for character relationships that are referenced in later novels.

  • Are these stories available in other collections?

The three novellas included in this volume are also featured in the larger Dresden Files anthology titled Brief Cases. This specific edition is a standalone collection that was originally published by Subterranean Press.

  • How do these stories relate to the broader series timeline?

The stories follow a chronological progression, with the first taking place between the second and third novels, the second occurring around the time of the seventh novel, and the final story set after the eleventh novel.
