Synopsis

In the winter of 1141 AD, a new priest arrives in Shrewsbury, only to be found drowned in the mill-pond. Suspicion falls on a young man in his company, who seems more interested in a local girl than his priestly duties. It's up to the wise Brother Cadfael to untangle the web of secrets and motives to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death.
