Synopsis

In 1145, a massive flood forces the monks of Shrewsbury to move the remains of Saint Winifred, but the sacred reliquary is stolen during the chaos. Brother Cadfael must track the missing bones across a landscape torn by civil war while investigating a murder that seems tied to the theft. He soon discovers that both religious devotion and personal greed are driving men to desperate acts.
