Bungalow 2
Synopsis
Tanya Harris lives in Marin County, California, where she is a mother of daughters, a wife and a freelance writer. On a hot July day her agent phones with an offer to write a major Hollywood screenplay, the kind of work she gave up long ago to raise her family. She is torn about leaving her husband and girls, but she accepts.
Tanya is put up in a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel, and the creative energy around her makes her feel reborn. She works with A-list actors and with Douglas Wayne, an Oscar-winning producer who is used to getting what he wants and who appears to have taken an interest in her.
Between shoots she flies home, where her family seems to need her less each time. Then her old life is pulled out from under her in a painful way, and her two lives begin to collide.
One award-winning film leads to another, and Tanya starts to ask whether she can be a wife, a mother and a writer all at once. When she reaches the hardest decision yet, a new offer arrives that could send her story in another direction.
This is a contemporary novel of women's fiction, following one woman's rise from suburban life to screenwriting success. It looks at the personal costs behind the glamour of Hollywood, with domestic drama and show business side by side.
