Synopsis

Inspector John Rebus is called to a remote village in the Scottish Highlands to investigate the murder of a local man, while his partner Siobhan Clarke investigates the death of a Saudi student in Edinburgh. Set against a backdrop of a world in turmoil, the novel is a meditation on the nature of justice, the cost of loyalty, and the darkness that can take hold in both the city and the wilderness.
