Synopsis

Autumn has come to Tinker's Cove, Maine, and Lucy Stone is up to her elbows in Halloween preparations — a haunted house fundraiser, costumes for the children, and the town's annual celebrations. Then a series of fires begins, and the burning of the old Hopkins house leaves a woman dead inside.

What the authorities call an accident looks to Lucy like arson, and possibly murder. Between deadlines at the local paper and the demands of a full house, she starts asking the questions no one else in town seems willing to ask, and finds that the fires trace back to grudges her neighbors would rather keep buried.

The third Lucy Stone mystery is a small-town, seasonal cozy: an amateur sleuth with a family and a job, a close-knit New England community, and a puzzle solved through local knowledge rather than forensics.
