The Temperature of Me and You

Dylan Highmark is sixteen and expects a dull winter of shifts at a Dairy Queen in the suburbs outside Philadelphia. He has always wanted a boyfriend, but the area offers few chances. Then Jordan walks in: an ordinary-looking, undeniably cute boy whose body temperature sits at 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

As the two spend more time together, Dylan's feelings grow. Soon he runs a fever for two weeks and starts coughing flames, which suggests something odder than a crush. Jordan insists that Dylan hide the symptoms from everyone.

The secrecy takes its toll. Dylan pulls away from his closest friends and his family, and he presses Jordan for the truth. Jordan explains what he is, where he comes from and who is looking for him, and Dylan learns that first love can be strange in ways he never pictured.

This is a young adult romance between two boys, with a fantastical streak and a light, warm tone. It follows a first relationship and the trust it demands, along with questions of identity. Time is also running short, since the pull between the boys may be the only thing that keeps them together, and survival is at stake.
