Synopsis

After the death of his only son, American descendant Delapore restores Exham Priory, the ancient seat of his notorious English ancestors in Anchester. Villagers regard the family name with dread, citing a centuries-old curse. Soon after moving in, Delapore and his friends are plagued by nocturnal scratching sounds behind the walls — sounds only they and their cats seem to hear. A search for the source leads to a vast subterranean world beneath the priory, where the family's true, horrifying history comes to light.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Lovecraft spent most of his life in New England. After his father's institutionalization in 1893, he lived affluently until his family's wealth dissipated after the death of his grandfather. He then lived with his mother, in reduced financial security, until her institutionalization in 1919.
