Dream Country
Dream Country collects four self-contained Sandman stories (issues #17-20). In "Calliope," a blocked novelist imprisons the Greek muse Calliope to steal his ideas, until Dream intervenes. "A Dream of a Thousand Cats" follows a feline storyteller convincing other cats that dreaming together could remake the world in their favor. "Façade" follows Element Girl, a former superhero cursed with an inhuman body, as she confronts Death about ending her life. The volume closes with "A Midsummer Night's Dream," in which Shakespeare's own troupe performs the play for its real-life inspirations, Titania and Oberon's fairy court, on the night it was written — the only comic to win the World Fantasy Award for Best Short Fiction.
