Synopsis

In 1916, occultist Roderick Burgess attempts to capture Death itself for immortality, but mistakenly imprisons her brother Dream (Morpheus) instead. Kept captive for over seven decades, Dream finally escapes after his jailer's death, weakened and stripped of his totems of power — a pouch of sand, a helm, and a ruby, scattered across the world and the afterlife.

Dream's quest to recover them takes him into Hell to bargain with Lucifer Morningstar, into confrontation with a demon wearing his stolen helm, and finally to a diner where the deranged Doctor Destiny has been using Dream's ruby to warp reality with horrifying consequences. Restored and reflecting on what he missed during his imprisonment, Dream is coaxed out of his despair by his sister Death. This deluxe Absolute edition collects the opening arc of Neil Gaiman's landmark Sandman series in newly recolored form.
