Synopsis

Peter "Lark" Larkin left his small hometown of Wofford Falls to become a celebrated artist in the city, then returned home to settle down. His sister, Betsy, is talented too, though reclusive and estranged from the town's expectations. When a wealthy prospective client summons Lark for a meeting, he's shown a live feed: Betsy has been abducted. She'll stay safe, he's told, only if he does exactly what a strange book instructs him to do.

The demand pulls the Larkin siblings into the orbit of Helena and Griffin Belmont, an unnervingly long-lived brother and sister trying to restore their father to full life. Lark is put to work building strange sculptures at the Belmonts' compound, and as the ritual proceeds, the effects ripple outward — distortions in space, in reality, in what the people around him seem to be. A story of obsession and the lengths people will go to protect the ones they love, set against a slow unraveling of cosmic horror.
