The Path of Ascension 7
The seventh book of The Path of Ascension opens deep inside Minkalla, where Matt, Liz, Aster, and Susanne have just fought one of the strongest monsters they have ever encountered. The delve is far from finished: three floors remain, and each promises to push the party past their perceived limits. There is no escape route and no higher-Tier rescue waiting outside — the only things they can rely on are themselves and each other.
The Path of Ascension began as a Royal Road serial and runs twelve volumes in its Aethon Books edition. It follows Matt, orphaned in a rift-spawned monster attack and saddled with a Talent rated detrimental, who joins the Empire's Path of Ascension — a sponsored route for climbing the Tiers of power — alongside his partner Liz and his Bond, the Arctic fox Aster. By this volume the team has grown from raw recruits into seasoned delvers, and the Minkalla delve that began earlier in the series confronts them with trials no outside backing can soften.
C. Mantis's series blends LitRPG and xianxia: dungeons, skills, and system mechanics on the surface, with a cultivation-style progression engine underneath that is kept logically and internally consistent. Fights are grounded in the established rules, and the protagonist approaches problems rationally rather than through plot armor. Book 7 continues the delve arc directly from the previous volume and is best read in series order.
