The Path of Ascension 6

The Path of Ascension 6 sends Matt, Liz, and their Bond Aster to Minkalla, a planet that admits only those below Tier 15 and inverts the usual logic of risk: the weaker you enter, the greater the rewards on offer. The team decides to run it at Tier 11, well under the cap, trading safety for the outsized prizes the handicap earns. Below the surface wait seven floors, each holding a reward more powerful than the last, patrolled by Tier 14 monsters. And the Empire's delvers are not alone — all eight Great Powers have sent their people into the planet's depths, so every floor is both a survival problem and a contest over who walks out with Minkalla's prizes.

This is the sixth of twelve volumes in C. Mantis's Path of Ascension, a progression fantasy that crosses LitRPG systems — dungeons, skills, Tiers — with xianxia-style cultivation underneath. The series follows Matt, orphaned in a rift-spawned monster attack and left with a Talent officially rated detrimental, who joins the Empire's Path of Ascension anyway; his partner Liz; and Aster, the Arctic fox Bond who grows in power alongside him. By this point in the series the team has climbed far enough that Minkalla's entry restriction makes them rare candidates for a delve most climbers would never attempt.

First serialized on Royal Road, the novel was published by Aethon Books in 2024. The magic and progression systems stay internally consistent, the fights are worked out rather than hand-waved, and the volume keeps the series' pattern of pairing steady advancement with a widening view of the Empire and its rival powers.
