The Path of Ascension 10
The Path of Ascension 10 opens with the climb complete. Matt, Liz, and their Bond Aster — the Arctic fox who has grown in power alongside them since the beginning — have finished the Path of Ascension, the Empire-spanning program that carried Matt from an orphaned teenager with a supposedly detrimental Talent to one of the most capable Ascenders of his generation. With the Path behind them, the three enter the war alongside Light and Shadow, joining a fight where stemming the tide would count as success and turning it is the real goal.
This is the tenth of twelve numbered volumes in C. Mantis's Path of Ascension, the Royal Road serial published by Aethon Books that crosses LitRPG systems — dungeons, skills, measurable Tiers — with xianxia-style cultivation. The series has followed Matt, Liz, and Aster up the Empire's Tiers from the start, and this volume shifts them from competitors on a structured path to combatants in an open war, building toward their Ascension. A side-story volume, Book 10.5, then revisits that Ascension from outside perspectives.
The hallmarks of the serial carry through: a magic and progression system that stays logically and internally consistent, realistic fight scenes, and a rational protagonist who treats every problem — including a war — as something to be solved.
Known as Matt. Orphaned by a rift-spawned monster attack, he joins the Path of Ascension despite a Talent rated detrimental.
Liz — Matt's teammate and partner on the Path of Ascension.
Matt's Bond, an Arctic fox who grows in power alongside him on the Path.
The series originated as a popular web serial on the platform Royal Road before being adapted into the current book format.
The narrative follows a continuous chronological progression, so it is intended to be read in order starting from the first volume to fully understand the character development and worldbuilding.
