The Ice

The Ice is a companion novella to The Bound and the Broken, set between Of War and Ruin and Of Empires and Dust. It follows Aeson Virandr into Valacia, an icy wasteland no soul is known to have returned from, in search of the one thing that could turn the tide of the war consuming Epheria: hope, in the form of a dragon egg — the first in four hundred years.

Valacia's reputation is not exaggeration. Whatever Aeson finds there, hope turns out to have a price, and it is paid in blood.
