Synopsis

The Fall is a prequel novella set four hundred years before the events of Of Blood and Fire, in the city of Ilnaen at the heart of Epheria. The Order has guarded the mortal realm for millennia, but a faction within it believes it has grown corrupt, indulgent, and deceitful, abandoning the oaths sworn by its founders.

When a red moon rises over Ilnaen, that quiet dissent erupts into open catastrophe. Dragons war in fire and fury overhead, traitors fill the streets, and brothers and sisters of the Order turn on one another. Alvira, Archon and leader of the Draleid, Eltoar, Kallinvar, Brother Captain of the Second, and Coren are swept into a single night that will echo through everything the main series builds on top of it.

The Fall recontextualizes truths the later novels take for granted, and is the origin point for the Order's long, slow collapse.
