Synopsis

Of Blood and Fire opens The Bound and the Broken in Milltown, a village on the edge of Epheria's Ölm Forest, where Calen Bryer is still grieving his brother as he prepares for the Proving — a rite of passage that sends him and his closest friends, Dann Pimm and Rist Havel, into the forest for three nights armed with only a knife and a bow.

When three strangers arrive at the village's Gilded Dragon Inn carrying a secret worth dying for, Calen is pulled out of Milltown entirely and into a war between empires that has been building for centuries. Ryan Cahill's debut is explicit that Calen is no chosen one: there is no prophecy, his coming was not foretold, and the story that follows treats him — and the friends who follow him from Milltown — as ordinary people forced to survive an extraordinary war.
