The Affair

Elizabeth, Lady Thornhill, a recently widowed countess emerging from a loveless marriage and its mourning, takes shelter from a rainstorm in a London bookshop owned by Cale Cameron, a successful, rakish businessman. The two agree to a one-week affair with no expectations beyond it — but as their passion deepens into something neither intended, Elizabeth ends it rather than risk her heart, and it takes three months apart before Cale comes to win her back.
