Synopsis

Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell is a standalone Cosmere novella by Brandon Sanderson, first published in 2013 in the Dangerous Women anthology edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois, and later collected in Arcanum Unbounded.

Set on the eerie planet of Threnody, the story follows Silence Montane, proprietress of a lonely waystop in the deadly Forests of Hell and the secret identity behind the feared bounty hunter the White Fox. To keep her home and her family safe from a grasping creditor, she pursues a dangerous highwayman and his crew, all while navigating the strict rules that keep the vengeful Shades at bay.

Blending frontier survival horror with Sanderson's meticulous magic-system logic, this atmospheric, self-contained tale is an ideal entry point to the wider Cosmere.
