Synopsis

Spanning four generations from 1911 to the present, "The Midnight Rose" follows Anahita Chavan, a young woman from a noble but impoverished Indian family who becomes companion to Princess Indira and travels with her to England, where her life becomes entangled with the aristocratic Astbury family and the grand, crumbling Astbury Hall.

Decades later, American film star Rebecca Bradley arrives at Astbury Hall to shoot a movie, and alongside Anahita's great-grandson Ari, begins to uncover the secrets the family has spent generations trying to bury. Lucinda Riley's novel is a standalone story, not connected to her later "Seven Sisters" series, though it shares the same appetite for sweeping, multi-generational, dual-timeline storytelling.

  • Does this book connect to the Seven Sisters series?

This is a standalone novel and does not require knowledge of the author's other works, though it shares the signature multi-generational structure and historical research found in her broader bibliography.
