Synopsis

Kate, Aubrey and Jenny meet as freshman roommates at an elite New England college. They could hardly be more different — money, ambition and resentment sit between them from the first week — but they become inseparable anyway, and the bonds they form curdle into something closer to dependency.

Twenty years on, one of the three is standing on the edge of a bridge in the middle of the night while another stands beside her, telling her to jump. When a body is recovered, the town does what towns do and looks first at the husband.

Michele Campbell cuts between the roommates' college years and their tangled adult lives, letting each woman's version of events undercut the last, until the question is no longer only who died but which of these three friendships was capable of killing.
