Synopsis

Regency widow Lily Adler is looking forward to a quiet autumn away from London society. Visiting her friends the Carroways in Hampshire gives her the chance to relax—and to spend time with her charming new acquaintance, Matthew Spencer. But Belleford Manor has a reputation: a lady in grey is said to wander its halls at night, weeping and wailing.

The ghost story turns deadly when the family's matriarch is found smothered to death in her bed, the door locked from the inside. Her grieving family is convinced the manor's spirit is responsible, but Lily suspects a far more earthly hand. She sets out to find the truth before another body turns up—and before she herself becomes the next name on the killer's list.

Death at the Manor is the third book in Katharine Schellman's Lily Adler Mystery series, blending a traditional locked-room puzzle with the amateur-sleuth conventions and period detail that define the series.
