A Scandal in Mayfair

Synopsis

A Scandal in Mayfair is the fifth entry in Katharine Schellman's Lily Adler Mysteries, returning to the Regency London of the 1817 Season. Lily, no longer a grieving widow but a woman with a settled life and a protégée of her own in Amelia, is drawn into investigating a young woman's contested inheritance — a request that quickly unravels into a web of family secrets, a missing will, and a body.

As blackmail threats close in from every direction, a separate thread involving poisonous plants converges with the main case, and Lily has to move fast to identify a killer before the Season's social whirl turns fatal. The book pairs its mystery plotting with the series' ongoing slow-burn romance between Lily and Captain Jack Hartley, and its Regency setting and amateur-sleuth heroine have drawn comparisons to Bridgerton from reviewers.
