Synopsis

Regency widow Lily Adler travels to Hertfordshire for a quiet Christmas with her late husband's family in 1816, hoping to reconnect with Captain Jack Hartley. Instead she finds his sister Amelia caught up in a neighborhood scandal, and when a severe snowstorm traps the party overnight after Mrs. Grantham's annual ball, a wealthy young guest is found shot dead in the poultry yard the next morning.

With suspicion falling immediately on Amelia, and motives ranging from fraud and blackmail to theft and romantic jealousy scattered among the snowbound guests, Lily is asked to investigate quietly before the truth is buried with the snow. The fourth novel in the Lily Adler Mystery series, it has been likened to an Agatha Christie-style locked-room puzzle set against a Regency backdrop.

Reviewers have called it "a plummy period whodunit with a colorful collection of suspects" and "cozy mystery writing at its very best" — a holiday treat for fans of historical whodunits.
