Emilia Hart
Emilia Hart is the author of the historical fiction novel Weyward, along with Sirens and Of the Flesh. She writes stories that focus on the lives of women and their connection to the natural world
Weyward
Weyward braids together three women bound to the same corner of rural England and the same stubborn thread of inheritance. In 2019, Kate flees an abusive partner in London to a crumbling cottage left to her by a great-aunt she barely knew. In 1942, sixteen-year-old Violet, kept ignorant and confined by her father, is drawn to the insects and wild places no one wants her to love. And in 1619, Altha stands trial for witchcraft, accused of using the old knowledge her mother taught her to kill a local man.
Across four centuries, the women of the Weyward line share an affinity for the natural world, for crows and moths and growing things, and a resilience that the men around them keep trying to break. As their stories converge on Weyward Cottage, the source of that strength, and the price the world exacts for it, comes clear.
Emilia Hart's debut is an atmospheric, nature-steeped novel about female power, survival, and the ties that outlast cruelty.
A healer tried for witchcraft in 1619.
A curious, confined young woman in 1942 drawn to the natural world.
A pregnant woman fleeing an abusive relationship in 2019 who inherits Weyward Cottage from her great-aunt Violet.
The narrative unfolds through three distinct timelines, each following a different woman's story across centuries, which eventually intertwine.
Weyward is a standalone novel, offering a complete story within its pages without requiring readers to engage with a larger series.
