Douglas Adams
Douglas Adams was born in Cambridge in March 1952. He was creator of all the various manifestations of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Douglas died unexpectedly in May 2001 of a sudden heart attack at the age of 49.
The Salmon of Doubt
A posthumous collection assembled after Douglas Adams's death in 2001, gathering essays, interviews, speeches, and odds and ends pulled from his computer archives, alongside eleven unfinished chapters of a novel in progress. That fragment began as a third Dirk Gently book before Adams started reworking it toward a possible next Hitchhiker's entry; it breaks off unresolved, mid-draft.
The rest of the collection ranges over technology, travel, music, and everyday observation, in Adams's characteristic voice — closer to his newspaper columns and talks than to the novels, and offered as a portrait of the writer rather than a finished story.
