Synopsis

When a dying man in a Los Angeles alley claims to be the father Elvis Cole never knew, the private investigator is forced to confront his own mysterious origins. Alongside his partner Joe Pike and detective Carol Starkey, Elvis hunts for the truth while a ruthless killer tracks their every move. The search for his identity soon becomes a fight for survival as long-buried secrets come to light.

Robert Crais (born June 20, 1953, in Independence, Louisiana) is an American author of crime fiction and a former television screenwriter. Before turning to novels he wrote for series including Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice, Cagney & Lacey and L.A. Law. His 1987 debut, The Monkey's Raincoat, introduced private investigator Elvis Cole and won the Anthony and Macavity Awards; Cole's partner Joe Pike went on to headline his own spin-off novels within the same series.
