Synopsis

Adairia is a young scholar in Albiyon, a country whose monarchy fell a hundred years ago and which has since become a safe home for its people. She grew up inside the walls of the Albiyan university and has given her life to study. She would rather stay in the library than go looking for adventure, and her days follow a comfortable routine.

That routine ends when she unknowingly wakes a dragon's egg that has lain dormant. Adairia has never imagined dragons, and she has no idea what to do with a hatchling on the way. She has to find someone who does.

That person is Isla, the last direct descendant of the royal family. Isla is lively and confident, and she keeps company with a dragon that is centuries old. The two women have to work through the surprises ahead together.

A new-born dragon is not the only thing on the horizon. A dangerous conspiracy is taking shape in Albiyon, and it threatens the peace the country has held since the crown fell.

This is a fantasy with a queer romance and a bookish heroine at its centre. Friendship and acceptance run alongside the plot, which moves from the quiet of the university into the wider world.
