Synopsis

Two years before The Priory of the Orange Tree, Yscalin is still an ally of Inys. Marosa Vetalda is kept a virtual prisoner by her father, King Sigoso, her only real hope of escape a long-delayed betrothal to Prince Aubrecht of Mentendon. She fills the waiting with secret study and a private correspondence with Queen Sabran of Inys.

Estina Melaugo hunts the Draconic beasts that have slept across the world for centuries, one of the few people willing to face them directly. When an earthquake cracks open Mount Fruma and the wyrm Fýredel stirs, the fragile peace both women have built their lives around starts to collapse.

A prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree, set in the kingdom of Yscalin in the years leading up to its fall.
