Synopsis
Published under the title Tajore Arkle (catalogued here as Tajorachal), this 1999 stand-alone fantasy by Jackie French follows Anya, a girl growing up in Greycliffs, a community where most people spend their lives laboring in the slab-rock quarry. Anya has always had dreams of a world other than her own — visions that set her apart from everyone around her.
When a rockfall she foresaw in one of these dreams is blamed on her, Anya is exiled from Greycliffs and sent to the Mountain, a refuge for the Pastseers — people, like her, who are different. There she must come to terms with who she is and undertake a long, dangerous journey to help a friend she has never met in person. A quiet fantasy about prejudice, belonging, and the value of friendship across difference.
