Synopsis

In a near-future America ravaged by climate change and social unrest, Lauren Olamina — a young woman with hyperempathy, the ability to feel others' pain as her own — leads a small community north in search of safety, developing along the way a belief system she calls Earthseed: the conviction that "God is Change."

Years later, with Earthseed rooted in the community of Acorn, a demagogic president's rise to power puts Lauren's followers directly in the path of a regime determined to crush religious dissent.

This collection brings together both novels — the founding of Earthseed and the price of holding on to it — in a single volume.
