Synopsis

Parable of the Talents picks up several years after Parable of the Sower. Lauren Olamina has established Acorn, a small, self-sufficient community in the hills of northern California built around her Earthseed faith — the belief that "God is Change" and that humanity's destiny lies in eventually settling other worlds.

The election of Andrew Steele Jarret, a demagogue who campaigns on a promise to restore a lost American greatness, ushers in a wave of Christian-nationalist zealotry. Acorn's religious nonconformity makes it a target, and Lauren and her community are swept into the regime's machinery of persecution.

Told partly through Lauren's journals and partly through the perspective of her estranged daughter looking back years later, the novel follows what survives of Earthseed — and at what cost — when belief collides with organized power.
