Synopsis

Mia Corvere has earned a place among the Blades of the Red Church, but many of her fellow assassins doubt she's earned it — and she's no closer to killing Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo, the men responsible for her family's destruction. After a deadly confrontation with an old enemy leaves her questioning the Church's true motives, Mia learns that Scaeva and Duomo will make a rare public appearance at the finale of the Godsgrave games — and defies her order to sell herself into a gladiatorial collegium for a shot at revenge.

Inside the arena, Mia gathers new allies, new rivals, and new questions about the shadow-magic she carries, as conspiracies mount and the body count climbs toward a choice between loyalty to the Church and vengeance for her own. Jay Kristoff's Nevernight sequel keeps the dark humor and blood-soaked pacing of the first book while widening its political stakes.
