Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to read the previous books in The Old Kingdom series before Abhorsen?

While Abhorsen can be enjoyed on its own, reading Sabriel and Lirael first provides a richer understanding of the world, characters, and the ongoing conflict with the Dead. The narrative builds upon events and character developments from the earlier books.

  • Does Abhorsen conclude the main story arc of The Old Kingdom trilogy?

Abhorsen brings a definitive conclusion to the primary storyline involving Lirael and the immediate threats to the Old Kingdom that began in the preceding novels. It resolves the major conflicts and character journeys established in the trilogy.

  • How does Abhorsen connect to Garth Nix's other works?

Abhorsen is a direct continuation within The Old Kingdom series, which is one of Garth Nix's most well-known fantasy worlds. While it doesn't directly connect to his other distinct series like the Keys to the Kingdom, it shares his characteristic blend of intricate magic systems and strong protagonists.
