Synopsis

Cam is back in Houston after leaving Los Angeles, and Kai, the love of his life, has come with him as a ghost. Kai's visits are wild, tender and impossible to predict, and Cam cannot make them stop.

Cam is not the person he was when he left. He drifts back into the life of TJ, his childhood best friend, and into the orbit of the bakery TJ's family runs. The two men share a history, and it is tense with distance and old hurt.

Neither of them knows how to stand in the same room without the past getting in the way. Wounds and secrets sit between them, and each has to decide what to say and what to keep back.

They are looking for a way to be okay together, perhaps for the first time. The answer comes from an unlikely place and offers them some hope and some nourishment.

The novel is intimate in scale and tender in tone. It asks whether the people who have known us longest, even when they have hurt us, can be the ones who show us what love looks like.
