Frequently asked questions

  • Does Enquiry need to be read in order?

Enquiry is a standalone novel and does not require reading any other books by Dick Francis beforehand. While it shares the author's characteristic focus on horse racing, its plot and characters are entirely self-contained.

  • How does Enquiry compare to Dick Francis's other books?

Enquiry features a protagonist who is a jockey, a common profession for Francis's heroes, but it stands out for its deep dive into the legal and reputational fallout of a racing scandal. The narrative explores the protagonist's struggle to clear his name through investigative work, a recurring theme in Francis's oeuvre, but with a particular emphasis on the court of public opinion.
