Synopsis

Eleven years after their teenage romance ended, Pilar and her childhood friend meet again — he is now a charismatic spiritual leader on the verge of priesthood, torn between his religious calling and his feelings for her. Traveling together to the River Piedra in the French Pyrenees, they confront old wounds and the question of what a life devoted to love, rather than doctrine, would cost. Told from Pilar's point of view, the novel follows her growing willingness to question the rigid faith she was raised in and to trust her own capacity to love. Part of Paulo Coelho's "On the Seventh Day" trilogy, this is a quiet, reflective story about choosing between spiritual certainty and human connection.
