A Start in Life
Synopsis
A woman who has spent her life as a quiet, overlooked secretary is suddenly thrust into the spotlight when her husband's death and a family scandal force her to confront her own identity and a long-buried talent for writing. The novel is a slow-build character study of self-discovery and the cost of a comfortable, unexamined life, set against the backdrop of a small English town and its literary circles. The tone is understated and quietly ironic throughout.
