Frequently asked questions
What major literary prizes did José Emilio Pacheco win?
Pacheco was awarded the Premio Cervantes for 2009 — the highest honour in Spanish-language literature, given for a writer's body of work rather than for any single book. In the same year he also received the Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana, making 2009 the year both of the Spanish-speaking world's major career prizes for poetry went to him. He had earlier been elected to El Colegio Nacional in July 1986, at the time the youngest person ever admitted to the institution.
