Synopsis

Jayne Baek is barely scraping through fashion school in New York City, propped up by a boyfriend who takes more than he gives and friends who mostly want her attention online. Her sister June, three years older, has the finance job, the money and the apartment that comes with both. They have not spoken in months.

Then June is diagnosed with uterine cancer, and her insurance will not cover it. Jayne is still on their parents' plan. So the sisters agree to something reckless. Jayne will pose as June to get the treatment paid for, a lie that forces two people who cannot stand each other into the same cramped apartment.

Jayne is keeping a secret of her own. She has hidden an eating disorder from her boyfriend and her parents, and mostly from herself. Living inside June's crisis leaves her nowhere left to hide it.

This young adult novel moves between fashion school deadlines, a Korean immigrant family's church dinners and a hospital room neither sister wanted to share. It is narrated in Jayne's voice: funny about the wrong things, blunt about the ones that actually hurt.
