Synopsis

Unstoppable Us, Volume 3: How Enemies Become Friends carries Yuval Noah Harari's history of humankind for younger readers into the age of empires and encounters, illustrated in full colour by Ricard Zaplana Ruiz.

More than two thousand years ago, groups of people who had lived apart began to meet: to trade, to fight, and to pass ideas and stories back and forth across long distances. This volume follows what came of that contact, and how the ancient civilisations that grew out of it produced the cities, languages, religions and countries of the modern world.

The title carries the argument. Peoples who began as strangers or enemies ended up sharing far more than they expected, and Harari uses that to explain why the world today looks united in some ways and divided in others.

Maps, timelines and cartoon illustrations run throughout. Written for readers of about ten and up, it follows Volume 2 and can be read on its own.
