Back on the job after a forced leave, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch catches his first case in months: a Hollywood producer found shot twice in the head and folded into the trunk of his own Rolls-Royce. To the department's organized-crime unit it reads as "trunk music" — a mob execution — and they would rather Bosch let it go.
He won't. Following the money out of the producer's shabby film company, Bosch tracks the case to the casinos of Las Vegas, where the trail crosses old ground and an old flame: former FBI agent Eleanor Wish. What began as a routine gangland hit unwinds into a tangle of laundered cash, unsanctioned surveillance, and corruption reaching inside both the LAPD and the Bureau — with Bosch himself increasingly in the line of fire.
The fifth Harry Bosch novel is a lean, fast Los Angeles-to-Vegas procedural that tests Bosch's instincts, his loyalties, and his refusal to stop pulling a thread everyone else wants cut.
